Action Alert: Tell Your Representative We Won't Accept Deals with California Forever

This Monday, June 15th, is the deadline for the legislature to adopt the state budget, and Governor Newsom must sign it into law by July 1st. This is a moment when the governor has significant leverage to negotiate and include last-minute items. For example, last year, a broad advanced manufacturing exemption from environmental review was added at the last minute to the budget bill as a condition for the governor’s signature.

We have now heard from multiple sources that the Governor’s team is working with California Forever’s lobbyists in a last-minute, backroom deal to benefit the billionaire backers of that project. We understand very few people have even seen the legislation, and it’s unclear exactly what the substance of the deal is. Still, it could be related to Shipbuilding, Annexation, Environmental Impact Reviews and CEQA exemption, or tax abatements.

WE CAN’T LET THAT HAPPEN. We need to let our representatives know we won’t accept backroom deals and giveaways to billionaires! If this legislation is good for jobs and housing in Solano County, why is it being developed in total secrecy?

• Representative Lori Wilson, I’m a resident in your district.

• As my representative and lawmaker, I want to ask you to NOT allow any backroom, last-minute giveaways for California Forever.

• The public needs to know the repercussions of any shipbuilding and annexation proposals, such as California Forever’s, and have a chance to voice their concerns.

• Let Governor Newsom know that any legislation related to Solano County should be led by Solano County legislators and publicly vetted.

Allies from outside the County, call your own state representatives and tell your friends to do so as well. It only takes 10-20 calls on an issue to trigger a staff response!
